Does weight loss have to be hard? I sure thought so! Going from one diet to another sure took it's wear and tear on my belief about my body, my weight as well as what was possible for me.
Today I am obsessed with helping people see that weight loss doesn’t have to be hard. And to do that I’m always looking at two things to make this process easier — the two things I look at are your relationship with food or your mindset.
What I mean by this is that I see beautiful people all the time who should be living incredibly and happy lives with vitality and health but they are not. Why? Well, I always go a little deeper and see that they either continue to diet which always puts their bodies in starvation mode and turns on their FAT programs or they don’t believe, see or feel that they actually deserve to be thin.
Which of these or combination of these applies to you?
Let's dive in to each of these areas….
When you continue to restrict food, your body doesn’t know that you're trying to look fabulous for an up and coming wedding, a reunion or that fun trip to the beach. All it knows is that you are heading into a famine. Your body's whole job is to keep you safe so because it thinks a famine is coming, it holds on to everything you eat and won’t let go (which means all that lovely food gets stored in your body)! Your sweet body doesn’t want you to be deprived. Instead your body thrives on being listened to, being fed and nourished and given a plethora of yummy and delicious foods.
On the other hand, if you’re having a mindset issue and you don’t belive you deserve, can or will ever have the body you want and desire, then I have a different set of tools in this area. Of course you deserve to look fabulous. Why not you is all I have to say! Here's a simple exercise that you can do to start seeing yourself thin and work up to believing you deserve it….
First, cut out a picture of someone’s body in a magazine that you think has a beautiful body that you would like to have (make sure it’s realistic – I can’t cut out a 6 foot model when I’m only 5’3”).
Next, find a picture of your face that you like. Cut your face out and stick it on top of that magazine picture so you can actually SEE yourself looking the way you desire. My clients get so excited when they actually see how amazing they can look and what their body will actually look like in a leaner and healthy body. We can’t always go there in our mind, but it's certainly easier to go there in our mind when we can actually see a picture. Mine is hanging on my vision board and I love it!
Finally, sit with this image for 3-5 minutes in the morning and 3-5 minutes before going to bed. Connect with the fact that this beautiful you is possible and that you deserve and it's safe for you to experience this type of beauty. Look into your picture's eyes and connect with your beautiful self while taking big deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Now say, while feeling calm and relaxed, “I can do this, I deserve health, I deserve this body and I’m in the process of making it all happen.”
Then go on with your day and wach the magic begin to take place because where we go in our mind, we will always go in our bodies too…
