I was just in Vail over the weekend and it was a weekend where we took the kids skiing for the first time, went swimming, but with Hayden getting into everything, we were inside a lot. My movement wasn't what I usually like it to be and I just felt a little lazy watching movies and eating pizza and bagels.

In the past this would have spiraled me down to depressed-body-land. If you find yourself spiraling a lot and feeling out of control with food, I can help you! Here's the good news – I have yet to work with a client whose food behaviors were in a place that I couldn't help them get out of, despite what they might believe about themselves.

There are loads of things you can do to step into your power around your body and food, but as not to overwhelm you, here are some of my favorites:

1) Power up your evenings.

Most women I work with experience “problem” eating behavior (e.g. wolfing down a giant fast food meal, polishing off a tub of ice cream, sneak-eating a box of girl scout cookies) in the evening. This is the toughest time for people because we're tired and ready to relax and release.

Come up with 5-10 new ways to relax and rejuvenate and begin using one of these this week instead of turning to food after dinner. Some of mine are having a nice cup of warm lemon water or tea, a hot bath, snuggling up with a book, laying in bed watching a favorite show, listening to a wonderful and inspiring audio, doing some meditation, etc.

2) What foods are you craving?

What foods are you craving? If you're craving loads of sweets – think about what you need to do to sweeten up your life. If you crave spicy foods – where in your life do you need to spice things up, and if you want salty foods – look at how you could make your life a bit more fun.

Often times the foods we crave have a physiological need but also an emotional and life-need, so when you think about the types of foods you crave, think about how your life can support you in getting those needs met.

If you've been following me for any length of time you know that I love cheese and can easily over do it. The thing is, cheese in big quantities does not like me. When I start having out of control cravings for cheese, I know that I like the way cheese fills me up and makes me feel full. In knowing that, I start looking for ways I could emotionally take care of myself and fill myself up.

3) Always eat foods that you like.

All my clients know that a meal needs to have two qualities: it must fill you up physically and emotionally. A salad that you hate eating will leave you craving chocolate. However, if you have a salad and end it with a yummy piece of dark chocolate (if you like salad and dark chocolate), then you won't be on the hunt for something sweet.  Once you get this down, then it's fun to discover which healthier foods options feels like a delicious treat to you. Then enjoy!

There's no reason you should be spiraling out of control with food when I can set you up with a powerful plan to get you on track with your weight and body goals. I'm all booked up this week, but I have a few openings this month to help those of you who are feeling out of control with food.
